Education
I am a graduate of the Duke University School of Law and was one of the first group of students to participate in what was, then, a novel trial practice program.
State Attorney
I began my legal career at the State Attorney’s Office in Palm Beach County where, for three of my seven years as a prosecutor, I was the Chief of the Economic Crimes Division - charged with the investigation and prosecution of some of the most complex fraud and white collar crime cases in the area.
Criminal Defense Attorney
I left the State Attorney and spent three years practicing
with criminal defense attorney Richard Lubin in West
Palm Beach. In 1984 I opened the Law Office of Steven
Gomberg and, since that time, I have been a solo practitioner
specializing in criminal defense. I have represented
people throughout Florida as well as in Federal matters
in several different states.
What distinguishes me from others is probably my enjoyment of a trial practice. I love to handle cases in which a trial will determine the eventual outcome. The fact is that, for many people and, unfortunately, many lawyers, the thought of submitting their fate, or their clients’, to a jury is a very intimidating prospect. We all plead cases out but, I strongly feel and experience shows, that preparing a case for trial is the only way to gain the maximum leverage over prosecutors and avoid the full impact of Florida’s sentencing guidelines. I believe my approach is the reason so many of my cases result in dismissals by the State.
You haven’t heard of me? Well, I do not seek publicity. I believe most clients will have a hard enough time dealing with the record of their arrest, guilty or innocent, and they do not need their lawyer focusing the fickle light of the media on them. Ask around among people who know, and I am sure you will find that my courtroom skill is widely respected.
